Golden State Warriors of America veteran, Andre Iguoadala left many mouths agape with his stunning three-pointer for his side against Utah Jazz in USA’s National Basketball Association (NBA) league, megasportsarena.com reports.
Iguodala’s magical move came with less than 45 seconds left in a close matchup between the Warriors and Utah Jazz at Vivint Arena on Saturday, when he hit a clutch three-pointer that extended The Dubs’ lead and seemingly secured their 123-116 win.
Ironically, this comes three years after reports emerged that the 37-year-old star had been contemplating retirement, after he missed Game 4 of NBA’s Western Conference Finals against Portland Trail Blazers due to a calf injury.
That also came at a time he averaged career lows in points, minutes, field-goal attempts and free-throw attempts and had not played a full 82-game season since 2009-10.
Though the stats also revealed at that time in 2019 that he had played more than 76 games just once in the regular season over the past five years, Iguodala is still in the top league, in which he has now unleashed such a stunning effort that left his prized teammate, Steph Curry in awe.
Curry was pleasantly shocked and joined in raining accolades on the again yet still enterprising ace, and the younger player used the opportunity to hype his teammate up when Utah called a timeout after Iguodala’s huge three point throw.
Iguodala finished with 12 points, shooting 71.4 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the 3-point line. He also dished out eight assists and racked up seven rebounds.
Damion Lee, who has missed the last four games after entering the NBA’s COVID-19 protocol, also had a hilarious reaction to Iguodala’s three.
Although there was a touch of controversy on the move, Iguodala’s triple and a couple free throws from Steph helped the Warriors improve to an NBA-best 28-7 and ended Utah’s six-game winning streak.
Another talking point occured in how Max Kellerman’s famous Iguodala quote came to fruition Saturday night in the Warriors’ 123-116 win over The Jazz at Vivint Arena.
OK, maybe not quite to that level, but nevertheless, Iguodala hit an open 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to help seal Golden State’s impressive win.
Jazz center Rudy Gobert, who guarded Iguodala on the play, later explained why the Warriors star was so open at a crucial moment.
Iguodala had noticed Gobert playing off him throughout the game, and he took advantage of it at the perfect opportunity.
Gobert retorted: “In basketball, you have to play the percentages. Obviously, I try not to give him the easiest shot, so I closed out on him.
“He had to make a pump-fake, and then he shot it. Everybody knows when you shoot like that, it’s not the easiest of a shot, but he made it. Once again, you’ve got to give him credit.
“My role was to make sure he’s not about to hit somebody on a backdoor, or if he hands it off to Steph [Curry] I’m able to help.
“In basketball, you can’t guard everything. You’ve got to give something away. We chose to give that away, and he made us pay, so credit to him.”
Iguodala, who is shooting an uninspiring 23.9 percent from 3-point range so far this season, but he’s still the same player who hits big shots when they matter most, beamed in return: “It was interesting.
“I normally don’t have too many threes like that this year. I hadn’t had a rhythm draining threes in-game, but then in practice, I was shooting well.
“I knew Rudy [Gobert] was guarding me, [and] he had been playing off all night. I knew the option would be there at some point. I just took advantage of it.”
