Former Super Eagles midfielder, Friday Ekpo has added his voice to reactions trailing Nigeria’s loss to Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, and posited that it was simply because the Dessert Foxes know how to handle their opponents and scuttle all their efforts.
The former Calabar Rovers and FC 105 of Gabon midfield dazzler, who was part of the Nigerian squad that won bronze at Senegal ’92 AFCON, further pointed out that the Algerians simply blocked the Eagles’ strong points in Sunday’s semi-final and ensured the three-time champions could not play to their strengths in the pulsating encounter.
He stated further during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos the Eagles were curtailed in their efforts by the tactically superior Algerians, who knew what they wanted to do and how to go about it.
The soft-spoken ex-international, however, stressed that, apart from developing and executing the perfect tactics to contain the Eagles, the Algerians showed that they have learnt a lot about Nigeria’s style of play from various clashes they have had over the years.
Ekpo reasoned: “We allowed Algeria to take control of our stronghold and curtail us. They know all about us, they know how to handle us, and that is what they showed on Sunday.”
