Alex Iwobi’s Coach Prefers Postponement Of Everton’s EPL Match

Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi will have to brace up for action on Boxing Days, as his club’s match in the English Premier League has not been postponed, much to the disdain of his coach, Rafael Benitez, megasportsarena.com reports.

Iwobi will have to line out with The Toffees on Sunday, while his Nigerian colleagues at Watford – William Troost-Ekong and Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis – get the day off, but the development has not gone down well with Benitez.

In reaction, Iwobi’s coach said he is still surprised that his club’s request to postpone their game against Burnley was rebuffed by the EPL, despite being left with nine senior outfield players because of a Covid-19 outbreak.

The Spaniard revealed five members of his squad had tested positive since the 1-1 draw at Chelsea on December 16, while his resources are further depleted by injuries to a further six players, including Brazil forward Richarlison.

Benitez cut a despondent figure and moaned publicly, as Everton now appear to be relying on a large array of youngsters to ensure The Toffees line out for the game at Turf Moor on Boxing Day, which is now set to go ahead as planned.

“With the injuries and the positives we had we were expecting that the game would be postponed.

“Now I have to think about if I have 11 players fit and where can I put them, so I am really surprised that we are playing this game.

“The problem is we have nine outfield players available plus three keepers and after we have to bring in five young players who are not even 21 years old.

“It seems that they have enough experience to play in the Premier League,” Iwobi’s coach concluded.
