Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi may take over from former Super Eagles’ captain, John Mikel Obi as the next Nigerian to play under Italian soccer tactician, Carlo Ancelotti, following reports that officials at his club are sounding the gaffer out about taking over at Goodison Park.
Mikel enjoyed some high points during his time together with Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge, all of which Iwobi could be set to gain as well with The Toffees, sequel to reports that Everton will begin contract talks with the Italian, after he was sacked as Napoli manager on Tuesday evening.
Megasportsarena.com further gathered that, although former Everton boss, David Moyes has also been tipped with a return to Goodison Park in an interim role, Ancelotti is fancied on a high level to be the Merseyside club’s next head coach and permanent manager.
This comes after Napoli announced the decision to dismiss Ancelotti just an hour after he led the Naples-based club to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League with a 4-0 win against visiting Racing Genk of Belgium, thereby ending a nine-game barren run in all competitions.
The coast was made clearer for Ancelotti to take over tinkering Iwobi and his pals after SIPG of China gaffer, Vitor Pereira, who had earlier been viewed as the leading candidate to take over at Everton, pulled out of the process to become the successor to sacked compatriot, Marco Silva.
Toffees’ legend, Duncan Ferguson is currently Everton’s interim manager and won an emotional first game in charge, beating Chelsea 3-1 at Goodison Park last weekend, by Sky in Italy reported that Ancelotti is now favoured for the task of handling Iwobi et al, especially after he got words of support from one of his former players during his days with Chelsea, Frank Lampard.
In his reaction to reports that Ancelotti could be heading to tinker Iwobi’s club, Lampard said his former boss is good enough for the job at Goddison Park, because he believes the ex-AC Milan, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich gaffer has what it takes to manage anywhere.
Lampard said: “I’ve got huge respect for him. I know it has been a tough situation for him lately. I saw his interview before the game and it was typically classy in what seemed like a tough time for him. He’s always handled himself brilliantly. I think he can manage anywhere in the world at the top level, of course.”
