Fatih Karagümrük of Turkey attacker, Ahmed Musa took part in the in-house mock-match played by the Super Eagles on Saturday, as he shook off a knock he copped on Friday against Cotton Sport FC of Cameroon, megasportsarena.com reports.
Musa scored Nigeria’s first goal in a 2-0 win against the Cameroonian champions, only for him to limp off soon afterwards, but he was back on the pitch for Saturday’s game, which the possibles won against the probables.
Also involved in the game as Venezia of Italy defender, Tyronne Ebuehi, who arrived only earlier in the day, but Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen decided to give a runaround same evening at VSTS-Annex of Roumde Adjio Stadium.
After jogging and stretching exercises, Eguavoen divided 22 players into four groups for a rondo training session, in which one team tries to keep possession while the other aims to take the ball away, while the goalkeepers were put through ball handling drills by their trainer.
The first team contained Ebuehi, Joe Aribo, Zaidu Sanusi, Musa, William Troost-Ekong and Taiwo Awoniyi, while Samuel Chukwueze Frank Onyeka, Kelechi Nwakali, Kenneth Omeruo, Chidera Ejuke and Olisa Ndah were grouped together.
The third group comprised Wilfred Ndidi, Chidozie Awaziem, Peter Olayinka, Kelechi Iheanacho and Semi Ajayi and the last group had Henry Onyekuru, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon and Sadiq Umar.
One of the most outstanding among the lot was Aribo, who now looks set to make his AFCON debut when the Eagles lock horns with Egypt on Tuesday, as the Glasgow Rangers of Scotland midfielder, who will wear Nigeria’s number 10 jersey, keeps dazzling in training.
In the penultimate workout before leaving Abuja, Aribo played for Team A and was named in the starting lineup for Friday’s win over Cotton Sport, which was an extension of how he had always been grouped with the possible starters who wore green bibs in the game on Saturday.
The former Charlton Athletic of England ace, who has 12 appearances for the Eagles – all of them in the starting line-up – is ahead of Chidera Ejuke, Kelechi Nwakali and Frank Onyeka in terms of games played and impact in the squad.
He marked his Super Eagles debut with a goal against Ukraine in September 2019 then scored against Brazil in October of same year, but he has not hit the net in ten consecutive matches for the three-time African champions, yet his chances of starting on Tuesday are very bright.
