FC Porto of Portugal defender, Zaidu Sanusi is excited with the role he played in helping his side win this year’s Portuguese Super Cup, as he put up a sterling performance in a sensational victory against better favoured Benfica.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the result means Sanusi claimed his first-ever professional silverware, as the Portuguese Primera Liga champions hooked the diadem for the 22nd time on Wednesday night, following a 2-0 win over Benfica.
Goals in either half by Sergio Oliveira and a late one by substitute Luis Diaz were all Sanusi and his teammate needed to reclaim the Super Taca from Benfica and the new Super Eagles’ left-back, who featured for the entire duration, had a rating of 6.4, three interceptions, four tackles, seven won duels and completed 66% of attempted passes.
It is another feather added for the 23-year-old Sanusi, who joined Porto this past summer from lower division side, Santa Clara and he has been on top of his game, while helping the club stay in contention for the league title and reach the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Porto, who are currently third in the Portuguese league table with 22 points from 10 matches, four points behind leaders Sporting Lisbon, will now aim to end 2020 with another victory this weekend, as they travel to Vitoria Vitoria.
That would be a dramatic cap to a glorious year for Sanusi, who has now won his first major trophy in the same year he played for the first time in the Champions League, made his Super Eagles’ debut and scored twice for the club he joined in the summer, one of which was in the European elite clubs’ competition.
The 23-year-old Sanusi, who previously played for Gil Vicente and Mirandela, has featured in 15 games across all competitions for Porto this season, bur he declared after Wednesday’s victory that the game against Benfica is his most memorable so far, as he posted on social media: “This is awesome. Thanks to God.”
