SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen has received a new verdict of optimism about his expected date of full recovery from a shoulder injury he copped in action for the Super Eagles and a new target of January 2021 for his return to action, megasportsarena.com reports.
The former VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille Metropole of France striker has missed nine matches for Napoli and one for Nigeria since bowing out with a shoulder dislocation in the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone, which ended 4-4 in Benin City.
The Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer and gold medalist got one of the Eagles’ goals in that embarrassing stalemate on November 13 at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, but he missed the reverse fixture in Freetown as well as a chain of Italian Serie A and UEFA Europa League games for Napoli.
In Osimhen’s absence, the team coached by AC Milan legend, Gennaro Gatusso have won just four of those games and lost 2-0 away to SS Lazio last weekend, but they will still not have their costliest player ever when they host AS Torino this Wednesday in their last match of 2020.
However, Napoli’s Sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli has now enthused that Osimhen will be back playing for the club next month, as he cited the start of 2021 as the new possible return date for the striker, going by the latest update.
This, though, is in contrast with initial reports that the Naples-based side were expecting Osimhen back in action before 2020 runs out, as Giuntoli affirmed that the 21-year old Super Eagles’ youngster is no longer expected to play until January 2021.
Giuntoli to Sky Sport Italia: “Osimhen is still not well, we are waiting for him at the beginning of 2021. At what point of the month is he back? We are waiting for him at the beginning of January. I don’t know when he will come back, we will see in what conditions it will be, and we will evaluate.”
