UD Almeria of Spain striker, Sadiq Umar is giving thanks to God for the turnaround his career has received in the outgoing year, even as he declared that he intends to make it better in 2021, megasportsarena.com gathered.
As the year 2020 fast approaches a climax, Umar is counting blessings of the past days, weeks and months, in which he started out with Partizan Belgrade of Serbia and is now ending on a high in the Spanish second division.
His days at Partizan were so explosive and lucrative that his tip form and run of goals earned him the move to Almeria, where he has continued in startling dimensions, but Umar says the best is yet to come from him.
The turnaround of fortune has helped him cast out of his mind ugly memories of his failed time on loan from Roma to Glasgow Rangers of Scotland, where he spent only the first half of last season before rushing off in search of a new deal, which eventually took him to Belgrade, who bought his contract from the Italians and the rest is now history.
Heading into 2021, it is time to reflect for Umar, whose rain of goals are already pushing Almeria back to the top-flight Spanish LaLiga, gave thanks to God for helping him thus far and prayed that divine favour will help him achieve promotion with his new club.
Umar, who has helped Almeria up to third spot in Segunda Liga, one spot behind the top two places for automatic promotion to LaLiga, told SCORENigeria: “I have to thank God for the opportunities I have got in life and also in football. As a footballer you dream of reaching the highest level.
“Last season, I played in the UEFA Europa League and this year I am in the Spanish second division. It was great experience to play in the Europa League with the highlight being coming up against mighty Manchester United.
“It’s one of the top competitions in the world after the World Cup and the UEFA Champions League. We (Partizan Belgrade) lost the game at home because we were unlucky. I still remember this game and still wondering why we lost.
“Almeria are a team with a big budget and a big plan to return to the top league. Our main target is to return to La Liga and that was what convinced me to sign for them. Everyone at the club wants to go to the top league. We belong to La Liga with our big budget, a new stadium and ambitions.”
