Wolverhampton Wanderers of England midfielder, Owen Otasowie is still relishing the outcome of his English Premier League debut for The Wolves, as the youngster, who was born in USA to Nigerian parents, stepped out on an evening his side beat Chelsea, megasportsarena.com reports.
In the wake of the encounter in which Otasowie played as a half time substitute, the youngster is now looking forward to busier days ahead of him at Molineux Stadium, where he has been buoyed by immense support from the club’s senior players and their coach.
Otasowie put up a satisfactory performance in Wolves last home game against Chelsea on Tuesday, as his club’s coach, Nuno Espírito Santo made a single change at the break by sending the youngster on in place of Leander Dendoncker.
Before then, he had been a non-playing substitute on eight occasions, including five in the ongoing campaign, and he went on to make the best of his first appearance in the top-flight, as his team failed to hold their own, despite Olivier Giroud giving Chelsea the lead four minutes after the restart.
A great finish from Daniel Podence restored parity in the 67th minute, but Pedro Neto netted the game-winning goal for Wolves in the fifth minute of stoppage time, as he fired home into the bottom corner following a swift counter-attack by the hosts.
It was an evening to remember for 19-year-old Otasowie, who impressed and helped Wolves register a 2-1 win against the visitors from London, and television images showed a delighted Santo embracing the Nigerian-born youngster after the final whistle.
Incidentally, Otasowie’s only other first team appearance for Wolves was in European continental club action on December 12 last year, when he played for 17 minutes in a UEFA Europa League fixture against Besiktas of Turkey, and the youngster is now aiming beyond the sky heading into 2021.
He then went on to make history his past Tuesday, as he was even heavily involved in Wolves’ equalizer, when the lad born in New York sent through a powerful header to Daniel Podence and the Portugal international finished with aplomb.
Otasowie, who made his debut for Team USA last month as a substitute against Wales, won the aerial challenge and confidently directed the ball towards Podence, who dodged past two defenders and beat Blues’ keeper, Edouard Mendy with a powerful shot, leaving plaudits trailing the Nigerian-born lad from his teammates.
Wolves’ captain, Conor Coady went on to hail Otasowie’s performance, as he declared: “The confidence he showed is fantastic, stepping out with the ball, showing how powerful he is. He’s a great lad, you see him improving every day in training, which he does all the time now.
“He gets on with his business, gets on with trying to get better. It’s fantastic to see him out there. Over the years we’ve played quite a lot of young lads, and he’s the next one. He kept his shape. It’s not an easy game to come onto.”
