Nigerian female sprints sensation, Blessing Okagbare is still relishing her recent feats at the American Track & Field Championship, where she achieved a personal best of 7.10 seconds in the 60 metres and an equally edifying finish in the 200m, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking against the backdrop of her double feat at the American Track League on Sunday, the lass from Sapele in Delta State and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games bronze medalist in long jump, said she was satisfied with her performance at the meet in Fayetteville, where she became the seventh-fastest Nigerian woman after Gloria Asunmu’s 7.07 seconds finish in 2012.
While Nigerian compatriots, Divine Oduduru and Charles Okeze finished fifth and seventh in the men’s 60m event, with 6.70 and 6.83 seconds respectively, Okagbare ended ahead of Jamaica’s Christian Williams and Teahna Daniels, who clocked 7.14 and 7.17 seconds respectively.
Okagbare, who is also a former African 100m record holder and 2014 Commonwealth Games double sprints queen, further underscored her bright start to the year with a superb performance in the 200m to earn another lifetime best of 23.01 seconds to win her heat, following which she took to social media to celebrate her achievements.
Writing under the tag Blessing Okagbare MFR (@mountain214), the athlete stated: “I won the 60M @americantrack yesterday and also won my heat in the 200M. Both came with a new personal best. I am excited #Fam🤸♀️🙌🏽 pic.twitter.com/BvVYKoen4i.”
