Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho has gained strong verbal backing from the English Premier League club’s coach, Brendan Rodgers, following the Super Eagles’ star’s inability to maintaining his goals scoring form last weekend, megasportsarena.com reports.
Against all expectations of another yeoman’s performance by Iheanacho, who got the nod to lead The Foxes’ attack ahead of come backing top scorer, Jamie Vardy, the Super Eagles’ star could not make his opportunities count, but Rodgers simply explained that it is because the former Manchester City star does not play as many matches back-to-back.
In a quick response to critical comments trailing another lame duck outing by ‘Kelele,’ Rodgers defended the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and most valuable player, as he gaffer threw light on what could have caused the attacker’s blunt performance last Sunday against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Iheanacho kept his place in The Foxes’ starting line-up despite Vardy returning to fitness from a recent bout with injury and then stepped off the bench at King Power Stadium in place of the Super Eagles’ star, as Rodgers’ side searched for a breakthrough against a tight Wolves’ defence.
However, the stage had been set for a barren outing, after Iheanacho failed to replicate his fat of the previous game, when he opened his goals scoring account in a 2-0 victory over Fulham four days earlier and, for the third time in four top-flight games, both sides had to settle for a draw.
Rodgers, though, refused to criticize Iheanacho for firing blanks, as the gaffer instead chose to hail the player’s work ethics and conceded that the Nigerian star has not gained enough playing time in the squad.
Speaking specially about Iheanacho’s blunt performance, Rodgers told BBC Leicester Sport: “He worked hard, didn’t have too many opportunities but he gave us everything. He’s not used to playing games close together.”
