Bayern Munich of England defender, David Olatokunbo Alaba may eventually miss out on an opportunity of joining Chelsea of England, as The Blues are reportedly not ken on meeting his wage demands, megasportsaena.com reports.
Information on offer from Stanford Bridge indicates that the lords at Chelsea will only finalise their efforts to sign Alaba if he lowers his wage demands, even as he will be a free agent on June 30 and has been able to hold discussions with non-German clubs since the start of the year
However, it has since been confirmed that the Nigerian-born Austria international is set to leave Munich this summer, after breaking off contract negotiations with the German Bundesliga side, Chelsea’s top brass insist they will not break the bank to meet the left-back’ personal demands.
This has reopened transfer speculation swirling round the star that was born in Austria to a Nigerian father and Philippines mother, with Liverpool and Manchester City of England also said to be interested, but latest information has it that Real Madrid are favourites to sign him.
The fervent race is, therefore, on once again for the signature of Alaba, who has been with The Bavarians since 2008, and through Chelsea have expressed strong interest in the 28-year-old, a deal could prove difficult to complete unless the player is willing to accept a lower wage.
British newspaper, Daily Telegraph added: “Chelsea are willing to walk away from negotiations unless the Austrian budges on his demands. Alaba is said to be holding out for £400,000 per week from his new employers, and Chelsea are not prepared to smash their wage structure for the defender.
“N’Golo Kante is currently the Blues’ highest-earning player, but he receives around £100,000 per week less than what Alaba is demanding. The Bayern Munich man has been used at centre-back by Hansi Flick in recent seasons, and Chelsea seem to have earmarked him as an option in that position.
“The Blues have also scouted RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, whose £38m release clause will kick in this summer. Chelsea could also renew their interest in Atletico Madrid stopper Jose Gimenez, while Bayern’s Niklas Sule is another option for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
“Chelsea chiefs have told agent Pini Zahavi he needs to drop the demands of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba. New Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is keen on bringing the Bosman prospect to London for next season. However, no deal will happen on the current terms Alaba is seeking.
“The Austria captain wants £20m-a-year to make the move to Stamford Bridge – which has been immediately rejected by Chelsea’s board. Tuchel and the Blues remain interested, but Zahavi has been told that Alaba must be realistic about what he wants.”
