Super Eagles’ captain, Ahmed Musa has revealed that he opted to sign with his former club, Kano Pillars because the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) side are very special to his heart, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Pillars having shot him to limelight 10 years ago, where he emerged NPFL top scorer while player for the City of Groundnut Pyramids side, Musa says he is happy to sign a new deal with the team.
This comes after Sai Masu Gida confirmed that Musa has signed with them until the end of the current season, thereby putting paid to speculation that the 28-year-old forward, who has been clubless since October, was on the verge of making another move abroad.
Chairman of the Kano-based former Nigerian back-to-back champions, Surajo Shuaibu Jambul said the club’s management agreed to sign Musa until the end of this current campaign in order to tap from his wide depth of exposure and experience, which they hope will rub off on current members of the squad.
Although it is only a short term contract, which many observers believe is a mere stop-gap agreement pending when Musa would get an offer abroad, the fleet-footed attacker refused to speak about the possibility of him moving on in the summer.
Rather than confirm his exit at the turn of the season, the former VV Van Venlo of Holland, CSKA Moscow of Russia, Leicester city of England and Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia winger-cum-attacker simply declared that he wants to make the best of his short-term deal with Pillars.
Ahead of his expected unveiling by Kano State governor, Umar Ganduje in the coming week, Musa refused to comment on whether or not he is still searching for a club in Europe, Musa, who earlier this year failed to seal a deal at West Bromwich Albion in England, stressed that his focus for now is only on Pillars.
Musa, who had also reportedly attracted transfer links with Besiktas and Fenerbache of Turkey, told the BBC Sport: “It’s the team that helped me become the professional footballer I am today.
“So, this is more than just football but a very strong bond. Anything that improves the image of Nigerian football is something that I strive to embark on and Kano Pillars holds a special place in my heart.”
